Our Brand Story

Since its establishment in 1985, the Atāwhai Trust has been dedicated to transforming lives and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals with diverse capabilities.

We believe that everyone deserves the chance to socialise, engage in outdoor activities, and be inspired by real-life stories of perseverance and success. Driven by our commitment to community, we strive for a life that is inclusive, enjoyable, and fulfilling.

We offer diverse employment opportunities in areas such as horticulture, arborist services, light engineering, food and beverage waste redistribution, and packaging. Additionally, we support our clients in securing employment within the community, ensuring that each individual can discover a role that aligns with their skills, interests, and aspirations.

At Atāwhai Trust, our commitment to inclusivity means valuing and respecting every team member. We foster an empowering environment
that encourages personal and professional growth while promoting community integration and a strong sense of belonging. We are passionate about empowering lives and fostering community engagement to cultivate a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Brand Theme Identification

Our brand theme centres on credibility and recognition, focusing on an authentic, clean aesthetic that feels approachable and relatable.

Our visual identity is simple yet memorable, ensuring that each interaction resonates with our audience and conveys trustworthiness.

Elements of the Brand Name

Atāwhai – A Māori term meaning “to show kindness” or “to foster,” it embodies the spirit of our Trust and the individuals we support.

As a not-for-profit charitable organisation, we are guided by an experienced Board of Trustees dedicated to our mission of empowering lives through meaningful employment and fostering independence via community inclusion, participation, and supported living.

Icon

Our new design integrates elements from previous icons, acknowledging our history while modernising our representation for the future.

Cultural Commitment

As a bicultural partner in New Zealand, we ensure that our Māori clients achieve success while being recognised in our practices and branding. We are proud to weave aspects of Te Ao Māori into our daily operations, enriching the experiences of all individuals within and beyond Atāwhai.

Koru

The Māori word “koru,” meaning fold, loop, or coil, symbolises new life, growth, and peace. Our koru design reflects the three services we provide—our staff and supporters, as the external koru, and our clients, represented in the inner koru, signifying their central importance in our mission.
